Preventing Infection Workbooks for social care staff have been developed collaboratively by Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and Public Health Wales. A pilot and evaluation of the Workbooks was completed in 2022 and an educational grant from Social Care Wales has enabled 8,000 Workbooks to be printed and delivered to social care workforce leads for both Care Home and Domiciliary Care sectors.
The content of the Workbooks aligns with the National Infection and Prevention Manual, Wales Infection prevention and control – Public Health Wales (nhs.wales) and complements a range of IPC digital learning resources on the Social Care Wales website.
The content builds on knowledge of good IPC practice around respiratory illnesses and also includes infection control guidance such as multi-drug resistant organisms, Clostridioides difficile, Norovirus, reducing urinary tract infections, together with the ‘Standard infection control precautions’, in a visual Workbook. The Workbooks are designed as individual issue to each member of staff and can be kept as evidence of learning and used a reference once complete.
