Sharps management and inoculation injuries Infection Prevention and Control Guidance (Policy) for General Practice

Sharps are items that could cause cuts or puncture wounds, including needles and sharp instruments.

It is the responsibility of the user to dispose of sharps safely into a sharps container. Every year a number of sharps are disposed of incorrectly, e.g. sharps being disposed of directly into a waste bag, injuring healthcare staff.

A downloadable Community Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Guidance document for General Practice which can be adopted as a Policy by your organisation is available below. Also suitable for use within Dental Practice and Podiatry.

Alternatively, a complete set of IPC Guidance documents are available to purchase @ £69.99 – details can be found on the flyer and resource order form.
